Dr. Claire McCarthy
PhD MA Ed. PGCE Cert Ed. FAETC FHEA RDH (TCD) RDN FCGDent
Claire McCarthy is a leading expert in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry. Claire graduated from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland in 2000 and joined King’s College London (KCL) in 2004. With 24 years of clinical experience and 17 years in research and teaching, Claire has shaped dental education across the UK, US, and Ireland. She earned her PhD in Clinical Dentistry in 2024—a first for a Dental Hygienist at KCL—focusing on aerosol prevention and ultrasonic device performance. As a Clinical Research Fellow and Teacher at KCL, she mentors students, supervises clinical sessions, and leads research on ultrasonic devices and aerosol reduction. She also serves as chair of the Irish Dental Council’s Accreditation Committee, an external assessor for Malta’s MFHEA, and a Visiting Scholar at NYU College of Dentistry, contributing to postgraduate education. Claire’s passion for bridging theory with clinical practice ensures professionals receive cutting-edge insights.

Helen Minnery
Dip DH, BSc (Hons) Dental Studies, FAETC, Past President of the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy Liverpool University Dental Hospital
Helen Minnery qualified from Liverpool University Dental Hospital in September 1992. She currently works in South Liverpool for 3 days a week where she has been a member of the team for the past 26 years. The practice is a general and referral practice, where there is a team approach for patient care. Helen has been presenting over the past 5 years at events such as Dentistry show, British society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy National conference and alongside a colleague where they frequently runs full day courses on Dilemmas of Implants in Practice. Helen is also a volunteer mentor for the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy, which she used to be the president of. Helen. She is passionate about the profession and the role we play in healthcare and feels the need for a more cohesive working environment among all team members and a better understanding of each other's roles.
