Flossing With Braces
Flossing with braces can be time-consuming and tricky using traditional floss or floss threaders. A faster and more effective way is to use a Waterpik™ Water Flosser, which is clinically proven to improve gum health and remove more plaque around braces than string floss.
How To Floss With Braces In 6 Simple Steps
For best results, use the Orthodontic Tip, which has a tapered brush designed to clean around brackets and wires. The Classic Jet Tip is also effective.
-
Fill the flosser reservoir with lukewarm water and place it securely on the base.
-
Insert the flosser tip into the handle until it clicks into place.
-
Adjust the pressure control (start on a low setting). Lean over the sink and place the tip in your mouth.
-
Turn the unit on. Close lips slightly to prevent splashing, allowing water to flow out into the sink.
-
Starting at the back teeth, aim the tip at the gumline. Pause briefly and sweep around each bracket or appliance.
-
Move along tooth by tooth until the entire mouth is cleaned.
That’s it - water flossing braces takes just about 1 minute per day.
