Countertop vs. Cordless Waterpik® Water Flosser

All Waterpik® models deliver clinically proven benefits, but how do you choose the one that suits your patient best? Here we take a look at each style to help you decide.

There are three important features: Water Pressure, Reservoir Capacity, and Size & Portability.

  1. Water Pressure
  2. Firstly, water pressure settings allow the user to control the force of the water spray produced. The Waterpik® countertop models offer a much greater range of water pressure – between 10 and 100 PSI – to allow an extra gentle approach, as well as maximum cleaning. The range of water pressures available with a cordless model is between 45 and 75 PSI, and although many experienced Waterpik® Water Flosser users prefer the higher pressure settings, the lower settings delivered by a cordless model may be more useful for sensitive areas.

  3. Reservoir capacity
  4. Next, reservoir capacity and as one would expect, the countertop Water Flosser holds more water than the cordless version. Depending on the pressure setting in use, it is possible to floss for 60–90 seconds with a countertop model, compared to 30–45 seconds with a cordless model. This means that a cordless Water Flosser may need refilling in order to complete flossing.

  5. Size and portability
  6. Thirdly, size and portability, which must be carefully considered as the countertop Water Flosser does take up a bit more room than the cordless model. Nevertheless, there are a range of sizes, including the compact Aquarius® Professional and Aquarius® Professional Designer models with a base of just 4.7 inches wide and 3.8 inches deep. The countertop models also make it easy for the whole family to use with a selection of different flossing tips.

A cordless Waterpik® Water Flosser may be the right choice if size and portability is the priority.

The cordless models are helpful for:

  • Bathrooms with a small countertop or limited storage space
  • Travel (especially AA-battery operated and global voltage cordless models)
  • Use in the shower (waterproof cordless models)
  • As an alternative to the countertop model when away from home
